A spotlight on some of Italy’s great escapes, from luxury to boutique stays. The list is always evolving and I promise to continue sharing my favourites stays across the country because there are a whole lot of hidden gems!
In this week’s edit we’ve got a mix of places I’ve been to and loved, one boutique hotel I’ve just booked for a girl’s trip and a hotel on my neverending lust list.
Filed under: recently booked, Hermitage Hotel in Florence is tucked away in the lively streets of the city, just a stone’s throw away from the main attractions, and with views of the iconic Ponte Vecchio. The rooms are simple but full of charm, each offering a unique interior style. Florence can be tricky when it comes to finding those hidden hotel gems, but this quaint, quirky, family-owned spot really caught my eye. I’ve already booked it for a girls’ trip this summer - can’t wait!
Newly opened in 2023, it’s no surprise this incredibly cool and curated hotel has been making waves on TikTok. Nestled between the picturesque valleys of Val d’Orcia and Montepulciano, Casa Newton is a stunning boutique stay run by a family of Swiss art collectors. They’ve collaborated with artists and interior designers to create a truly unique experience. Whether you're looking for a romantic getaway or a solo escape, Casa Newton offers a serene and stylish base to explore the beauty of Tuscany.
Nestled between Mount Etna and the Ionian Sea, Puleera Boutique Hotel in San Leonardello is a charming 17th-century villa turned luxurious retreat. This family-run boutique stay (just a 30-minute drive from Taormina) perfectly blends Sicilian tradition and modern comfort. We stumbled upon it a couple of summers ago and were so lucky to be the only other guests (aside from an influencer family, who must have booked out the whole place) during peak season. Puleera has six beautifully designed rooms, each offering views of the hotel’s vineyards, the pool or if you’re lucky, Mount Etna. I highly recommend staying in one evening and enjoying locally sourced, home-cooked Sicilian cuisine under the garden lights.
This luxurious Italian escape is one to save for a special occasion. Borgo Egnazia is a stunning five-star resort designed to resemble a traditional Apulian village, boasting elegance while still exuding charm with its cobblestone streets, stone villas and serene seaside backdrop. It’s the perfect family getaway, offering a wide range of sporting facilities, including tennis courts, a swimming pool, spas, and a golf course. We stayed over New Year’s and were truly spoiled - during this time, guests can enjoy an evening market with live music and food stalls, in addition to the already abundant dining options. I’m not normally one to make a big fuss about 5-star hotels and experiences, but this was an unforgettable stay.
I’d love to know if you have any holidays coming up and if you need advice on where to stay!
Happy holiday planning!
